Remember that time we received a crate full of Tole Art magazines from the 1970s? The magazine is called “Turpen Times,” and it was published by Jean Wortham of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, “especially for paintin’ folks.” We were also given several of Wortham’s supplemental “Puddin Books,” collections of all kinds of painting patterns wrapped in colored gingham covers.
We really thought someone would come right down and snatch up all these great old books, as they’re filled with patterns and tips on painting and stories about talented crafts-people. Didn’t exactly happen.
However this morning there was a message on our machine from a woman in Branson Missouri who’d found our post online and was looking for one particular issue featuring her now deceased husband and his business, Wilderness Road Clockworks.
We dug into the box and turned out we had the issue. She was so happy to be able to get one. And we were so glad to help. Here it is – May-June 1972. Headed soon to Branson MO.
